A wedding on the coast is a dream scenario – whether it’s on a tropical beach in the Caribbean or a rocky New England shoreline, the salty sea air is good for the soul and a wonderful place to start married life. There are so many directions to take the design and décor for a coastal wedding – whether you want to with elegant wedding invitations or whimsical or find a balance in the middle, we at Dodeline would love to help you bring your vision to life.
Having been in the wedding industry for over 15 years, we’ve done a few Charleston wedding invitations as you can imagine – not to mention national and international ones too! Here are 10 examples of invitations for coastal weddings both in the Lowcountry and beyond.
1. Wild Dunes Blues
This suite leaned into a calm, coastal palette perfect for a Charleston wedding invitation. Set at Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms, South Carolina, shades of blue and tan perfectly represent the beach scenes the guests would enjoy during this wedding weekend, and the save the date truly set the tone with a watercolor illustration.

2. Sunset Marsh
A coastal wedding isn’t only about the beach. Here in the Lowcountry, the marsh and rivers are probably an even bigger feature of the coastline than the ocean shoreline. This suite leaned into the greens of the marsh grasses and brought in a beautiful pale pink from a Charleston sunset.

3. Turquoise Ocean Views
For a wedding in Florida, this couple leaned into the beautiful ocean blues by printing the whole suite on a pool blue paper color. The wording was letterpress in a dark green that matched the art deco style palms on the envelope liner. It’s the perfect combination of timeless elegant wedding invitations with a little personality infused in.

4. Wild Dunes Whimsy
For this summertime wedding at Wild Dunes, we leaned into a blue palette just like the one above, but with less green to suit the Atlantic Ocean here in the Lowcountry. A custom watercolor liner of the ocean view from the back of the venue tells guests exactly what to expect for this coastal wedding!

5. The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island is renowned for a reason – the views and nature are spectacular, as is the service and venue itself. This design uses artwork of the venue, a pretty pale shimmery blue accent with the envelopes, and a subtle vellum wrap to bring out the coastal vibes. The color palette here especially sets the tone for elegant wedding invitations.

6. Amelia Island is a very special place, and the Ritz Carlton makes it even more of a treat. The oceanfront venue is drawn on the back of the invitation in a subtle white sketch on a dove gray backer. The invitation is letterpress in a soft gray. Everything flows perfectly from the save the date to the invitation. Everything being monochrome is another great way to ensure the end result is an elegant wedding invitation.

7. Color! This beautiful suite for a wedding at Caledonia brings out the sunset marsh views, natural blues and sets it all off with a gorgeous watercolor map of the island.

8. For a wedding at the famous Don Cesar, this couple brought out the coastal blues and set them off with vibrant pink flowers. The laser cut butterfly reply card is one-of-a-kind!

9. This coastal wedding invitation went the fully elegant route, referencing the Charleston charm mostly with the color palette. A blind pressed floral design adorns the invitation and is matched on the envelope liner. Charleston wedding invitations at their finest!

10. This Newport, Rhode Island invitation features a navy and white nautical-esque color scheme and has a very timeless appearance. Truly elegant wedding invitations! The famous bridge and lighthouse from the area are featured in letterpress on the invitation, and a lovely sailboat appears on the welcome party card.
