On one hand, there’s the couple who has procrastinated far too long and is looking to plug their information into a predesigned template so that they can just get it in the mail in time. Then there’s the bride who has dreamed about her invitations for years and has very specific ideas about what it’s going to look like.

We absolutely love working with the full range of clients that we see, but if we’re being honest, it’s a special delight when we get the chance to do something truly extravagant! In this post, we wanted to introduce you to some examples of the specialty techniques that we offer to really make a wedding invitation stand out from the crowd.

Dressing Up the Envelope

Our first specialty technique involves literally the first thing that your family and friends will see when they get your invitation in the mail: the stamps. Sure, you could use a standard postage stamp that gets the job done, but you could also do something that takes advantage of the artistry, beauty, and tradition of stamp design. Using a number of different vintage stamps that complement your wedding aesthetic is a unique way to make sure that even the envelope is something your guests will want to keep as a souvenir.

Vintage stamps add a lot to your envelope.

Another very popular envelope feature is an inside layer that provides an additional opportunity for watercolor illustrations, a crest, a monogram, or other artwork to beautifully set off the invitation housed inside.

Paper Creations

Paper cutting technologies such as laser cutting and die cutting have made it possible to create customized wedding invitation components that would have been prohibitively tedious in the past. A laser-cut paper feature can be laid over your invitation, like the example below. Does your wedding venue have iconic architecture or an instantly recognizable look that you want to replicate with your invitation? Laser cutting can make it possible.

Laser cut features add depth and character to an invitation.

Die cut paper features create another opportunity to include a little extra piece that your guests will love receiving and will help them view your big day with great anticipation. This custom cut bird is one of our favorites, reflecting the beauty of nature that is sure to be a part of your wedding day if it takes place along the Charleston waterfront!

Custom die cut paper bird

Handmade Makes the Difference

At Dodeline Design, we make it a priority to honor the deep history that wedding invitations and stationery carry with them. One of the ways we do that is by offering handmade features that truly make each individual invitation unique. That could be as simple as deckling–a technique for hand-ripping the edges of invitations to give them a rustic, gentle, and unusual look. Many couples enjoy adding a hand-tied ribbon or bow to their invitations for a pop of color and texture, which we apply to each invitation by hand with care and skill.

Your wedding invitation can hearken back to a time of elegance, when an invitation to a special event was a piece of correspondence that required a monogrammed wax seal and delivery by hand. Our wax seals are available in a variety of materials and application methods, all of which create yet another aspect of your invitation that shows your guests how special your day is…and how special they are!

Wax seals are deeply rooted in tradition

Much More to Explore

Of course, these special components do not exhaust the possibilities for your wedding invitations here at Dodeline Design!
