What does a wedding invitation look like? Whatever colors, fonts, and accessories are involved, you most likely picture some kind of rectangular card that forms the basis for the invitation.<\/p>\n

As we\u2019ve said many times before, our designers here at Dodeline Design have a tremendous respect for the centuries-long history of formally inviting friends and family to the union of a happy couple. However, there is also a time and a place for trying something completely different! In this article we\u2019ll show you some examples of what we\u2019ve come up with in exploring just how creative we and our clients can be with the shape of their wedding invitation card design<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Subtle But Effective<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sometimes creativity is at its best when it is understated. As you can see in the example below, we added a curved edge to the different elements of a wedding invitation suite. This small alteration adds an unexpected flair, shape, and feel to the entire suite!<\/p>\n

We changed up the curve for different elements, utilizing a full curve, a half-curve, and even a complete circle for the card that provides the couple\u2019s wedding website. Altering the edges of an otherwise fairly traditional invitation is a very easy and fun way to make it look unexpected and fresh to your family and friends.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Die Cut Designs<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The die cut process allows our designers to give wedding stationery more complicated shapes. Scalloped edges and other patterns are easy to create through this cutting technique, keeping the overall piece even, straight, and beautiful. For a common example, see how the one piece of die-cut stationery in this suite stands out from the rest:<\/p>\n

Adding some extra color in combination with the die cut pattern, like we did in this suite, does even more to tie the RSVP card to the envelope and to complement the colors featured on the other cards.<\/p>\n

Laser Cut Options<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Laser cutting is a level up from die cutting. Rather than using a physical tool to cut the edge of the paper to the desired pattern, laser cutting uses\u2013you guessed it!\u2013a laser to cut the paper. This technique allows for very precise cuts, complicated patterns, and a result that is truly amazing!<\/p>\n

The intricate, whimsical butterfly pattern in this suite was created using laser cutting. The actual design was made on a computer, which then tells the laser exactly how to cut the paper for the final effect. Another technique used in this particular suite, in great contrast to the precision of the laser cut pattern, is the ripped edges of some of the other pieces. Combining these two effects results in an intriguing and eye-catching collection of stationery!<\/p>\n

Following the Theme<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Not all weddings have a very specific theme, but destination weddings often do. In these cases, our designers find it easy to get inspired by the location, landmarks, and defining features of the wedding\u2019s venue. We think you\u2019ll love the vibe of this one-of-a-kind wedding invitation suite, inspired by the iconic signage of the US National Park system.<\/p>\n

Not only the brown and green coloring, but even the fonts and shapes incorporated into the elements of the invitation suite reflect the National Park decor. One of our favorite features is also included in this project: a watercolor wedding map of the area surrounding the venue. In this case, the map highlights the biggest points of interest in Yellowstone National Park so that guests can be sure to make the most of their visit.<\/p>\n
